LiveEngine is a desktop component that provides VoIP, Instant Messaging and presence
client for any web application or portal as well as for a native Windows application. You can
implement your own user interface using HTML and Javascript or any .NET language. The current application can also retain its existing user interfaces, contact lists and any other existing information - Integration is easy and you can manage and modify your service when ever you like.
Yet another phone client? Actually no.
LiveEngine fits in any application (web or native) that you wish to use to provide the converged communications. It runs on open standards and interoperates with any 3rd party SIP elements. Although it provides Voice over IP (VoIP) over SIP, video communications(*, it also provides simple but very detailed control over presence and instant messaging services.
Zero configuration.
Deploying rich client services with the LiveEngine is a no-brainer. In web client implementations
the web page has full control over the LiveEngine platform. Use regular practices to build
the user interface to your web application and you can have either personalized or common settings for the end user. When integrated to native clients it is your choice how you wish to manage the user settings.

Implementation Example
Web-based e-mail service can be upgraded by integrating the Icecom LiveEngine into the webmail. With the LiveEngine, it is possible to attach presence information, Instant Messages, IP-to-IP calls and IP-to-PSTN calls easily into the webmail service that your customers currently use. You simply add new communication layers and features by using Javascript in order to plug-in and benefit from the new IP-services.

Audio calls
Media session initiation signalling is based on SIP-protocol (RFC3261) and media negotiations follows offer/answer model described in RFC3264 specification. Media streams are using RTP protocol as specified in RFC3550.
Sending and receiving Instant Messages
Instant Messages can be send and received by using LiveEngine. Messaging method follows SIP specifications and is described in RFC3428.
Presence services
Presence service allows users to receive the presence information of each others. This guarantees communication between users at convenient time. Presence service also includes function to define users that are allowed to receive presence information of the user.
- Presence info subscription: Methods for subscribing to presence event package are provided.
When the presence status of the user in question changes a notification of the change is sent to the subscriber.
LiveEngine service provides methods for passing presence info notifications to client software. Subscription to presence event package and notification is based on RFC3856.
- Authorizing presence watchers: LiveEngine provides services for manipulating authorization list of presence watchers.
NAT traversal
LiveEngine contains module which is using methods for circumventing NAT/firewall problems by using ICE methodology based on draft-ietf-mmusic-ice-08. This means that LiveEngine is checking all interfaces and available STUN-service and choosing the most suitable one for real-time communication.

LiveEngine provides built-in engines of the latest technology standards: SIP (RFC3261) protocol stack, high-quality audio codecs (G.711u/a, iLBC, Speex), Presence services (IETF SIMPLE), HTTP proxy functionality and built-in sandboxing model for serving multiple clients concurrently. LiveEngine works with any web browser that supports standard Javascript. Furthermore it is not dependent on 3rd party technologies, such as ActiveX or Java runtime.
